For underground graffiti artist Kieru Kamiya, outrunning the police after putting up a piece is just another night. But after chugging a new energy drink, "Awake.exe," the number 666 appears on his palm and begins counting down.
Energy depleting rapidly, Kieru goes back to Lucky Mart where he meets Sarina Hawthorne. A meek teenage girl obsessed with demons and the occult, Sarina runs her family’s small convenience store, Lucky Mart, and just so happens to be the prime suspect in mysterious poisonings linked to the drink.
When a demon named Reyk shows up at the store, Kieru and Sarina learn that not only are demons real but that the numbers on Kieru’s hand might be counting down to his demise...

About the project
Created as a companion piece for Dillon Goo’s upcoming original animated series, SOUL MART: NIGHT SHIFT debuts the Soul Mart universe’s grungy, graffiti-covered, near-future, world where demons use technology and humanity’s ravenous hunger for consumerism to possess and devour human souls—that is if a plucky band of demon hunters don’t stop them first. While subtitled “NIGHT SHIFT,” as lead producer I worked day and night alongside the drawing demons at SEER STUDIOS, writer Erin Firestine’s wicked words, the visceral lettering of Kait Routsis, and Dillon himself to achieve a high bar for parkour-fueled supernatural action. Rather than follow the traditional full-color vertical-scroll webtoon format, with this project we pushed for something that blended the best of east asian comic culture: a black-and-white fusion of shonen genre manga and webcomic traditions that reflected the anime and manga inspirations of the series while taking advantage of the seamless pacing, gorgeous panel art compositions, and other visual techniques that exemplify vertical-scroll storytelling.
